It is a time of exile.  As the newly declared Emperor Palpatine consolidates his hold on the Core Worlds, the weak and scattered Resistance has been forced into the lawless territories of the Outer Rim, to wait and hope for a chance to fight.

Anakin Skywalker, fleeing the purge of the Jedi knights conducted by Palpatine's apprentice, has taken refuge with the exiled Amidala and their family on his homeworld of Tatooine.

"She didn't understand," Mother said, turning to Leia with wide, pleading eyes.  "But you do, don't you, my Leia?  My beauitful girl?  You understand."

Leia couldn't find her voice to answer.  She glided over to the spot on the floor where Mon Mothma had fallen  A bit of her white robe had floated down when Father had lifted her, and Leia picked it up.  She held it tight in her fist.

Oh, yes, Mother.  I understand.  I understand it all.

The Skywalker family is reunited, but only by brute strength.  Will Leia's idealism bind them in a healthier way, or will her anger permanently sunder them... and destroy the galaxy?

Anakin was stunned. He quickly looked at his now unconcealed hands and found healthy, vibrant skin on it. He ran his hands over his arms and his legs. It was flesh and blood. He pinched his arms to check if it was real and felt the small stab of pain. He could know feel the muscles and the ligaments in his legs as he lifted them off the ground and flexed them. No longer were they the mechanical attachments that had been put on him after his body was destroyed.

The reunited Skywalker family battles Palpatine to the end over the construction of the second Death Star.

[The voice] spoke in a variant of her voice, because it wasn't really using words--she was supplying them--but the sense of being spoken to by someone outside of herself was pervasive. You must be wary, young Leia, and you must be strong. The only question that matters today is the one you must never answer.

On Bespin, Vader asks Leia the one question she has always been forbidden to answer.

[Luke] ran to the other man.  A frustrated breath escaped him, then he turned, looking  entirely unsurprised to see a Jedi. "I don't believe we have met," he said. "I thought I knew nearly all the older padawans. I am Qui-Gon Jinn."... Two more figures were running down the gangplank, a younger man in long brown robes and a small, dusty boy... Luke's eyes widened as he felt the distinctive surge of energy. "Say nothing," Qui-Gon Jinn instructed him.

Perhaps Skywalker survived his battle against Lord Vader. Perhaps he even had the potential to become the most powerful Force-user to ever live.  But even he could not control time itself...

Palpatine devises a way to stop Luke Skywalker before he is ever born, but Luke, Leia, and Vader all choose to stop him.

[Vader] had known from the beginning that his plan could turn out like that and now he had to bear the brunt of its backlash.

Vader's discovery of his daughter leads to a brash plan to defeat Palpatine and rejoin his family... if the mechanations of enemies and the anger of family doesn't derail it.

Amidala felt her hand rise to her lips, heard herself gasp... For a long    moment, they simply stared at one another. Then, in a burst of courage and desperation, she ran to him.

When Amidala stands by her husband's side, no power in the galaxy can stand against them.

It was supposed to have been his own death as well as Palpatine's. His respiratory circuitry had taken a beating, and he'd felt the life slipping out of him. And yet, he wasn't dead.... He inhaled, then spoke in the way that had once seemed natural to him. "What day is it?"....  The droid gave him the day and month in Amidala's world, and he smiled. He had been unconscious for four days, but he had awakened on this day, as he always did. "It's my anniversary," he said to no one in particular.

Anakin has survived the final battle, long enough to speak with his children.

Anakin, without thinking, blurted out the first question that came to his mind. "Am I dead?"
To his surprise, Obi-Wan laughed. "Yes," he answered, "from a certain point of view.   But in another sense, you've just come alive."

After his body dies, Anakin finds himself in a strange series of symbolic worlds, where he is given a chance to find those things he once lost.

The man did not comment, only looked at her with sad steady eyes... Jaina, startled, placed her own hands on his arms. "Do I know you?" ...

Many years after Anakin's death, his grandchildren begin to have strange and visionary dreams about him.

It is a time of healing.  Acting on a suspicious pattern of newly found Imperial camps, Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron have made a disturbing discovery  that surprises even Luke Skywalker-- a cloning lab, and an experiment that could  change his life forever, and at last bring peace and closure to his family....

Anakin claims a clone that Palpatine had made as his final temptation, and in it, faces his family, the galaxy, and himself.

Vader stood, his whole body trembling like a drug addict desperate for another hit. Here was the spot. Here he would meet his destiny....  Again he was struck by the odd appropriateness of his demise. He'd fallen before, and he would now fall again. First the fall to darkness, then the fall to madness, and finally the fall to death. If there was to be any good to come from his tragic life, this would be it.

What if Vader had survived the duel on the Death Star... and had to fight the demons of his own conscience when he arrived at Endor?
