If you are interested in writing an essay for Vader's Mask, please contact me, and let me know what you have in mind.
Some ideas for essays, if you don't have one already:
1) Would the good that Luke felt in Vader have found a way to manifest itself over the years behind the mask? If so, how do you think it might have shown itself? If not, what was Luke picking up on?
2) Did Vader suspect the existence of his son? Did he sense anything about his daughter?
3) How is the symbol of the mask used in the saga? I know, that one sounds like an English teacher's question, but it's fun to toss around -- remember all the other people we saw in masks, including Fett, the stormtroopers... and both twins (Luke in ANH, Leia in RotJ).
4) And if you thought the last one was overblown, how about this? What is the difference between redemption and absolution, and which did Vader achieve (or did he achieve both)?
5) Any other thing your mind wanders to -- as long as it's PG-PG13 -- when thinking about this particular fallen hero |

by FernWithy Deals with the question of how Anakin's character has or has not been shown as a consistent whole.
by FernWithy It was rumored after The Phantom Menace that all the seeds of Anakin's fall were planted in that movie. This essay speculates on a few of those seeds.
by Darth Nemesis Darth Nemesis argues that the good Luke sensed in Vader would not have been visible prior to Return of the Jedi.
by FernWithy A not-particularly-serious analysis of the podrace as a symbolic road map to the rest of the Star Wars saga.
by FernWithy A look at how the character of Darth Vader, from the time of A New Hope, was portrayed as a man capable of drastic change. |

Essays at Vader's Mask deal with the character of Anakin/Vader in terms of plot, theme, characterization... really anything that relates to the character in his role as the fallen and redeemed Chosen One.
Note, 11/2/02 -- It has been a long time since these have been updated, and the essays below were written before the release of Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
